Meadowlark Gallery: The Artist Biographies

David Berg

One of the earliest expressions of political commentary is the political cartoon, or, as they are referred to today, op-ed cartoons. Some of the artists names such as Nast, Oliphant, Conrad, and Kelly are as familiar as are those of essayists. David Berg was born in San Diego, California and graduated from San Diego State University with a degree in English and Psychology. As a Medical Technician, he served in the U. S. Navy and the U. S. Marine Corp. Berg has more than thirty five years experience in radio and television. His syndication experience has included a six day a week comic strip for over three years, entitled "C. B. Rider" which was distributed by Copley News Service of San Diego, California. For eleven years, he did a bi-weekly editorial cartoon distributed by Harte-Hanks Newspapers of San Diego, California. David Berg has coauthored two books. "Who's Nobody In America?" was done with Derek Evans and published by Holt, Rhinehart, and Winston in 1981 and was on the best seller list for non-fiction. "The Gripes of Wrath" was also coauthored with Derek Evans and published as well by Holt, Rhinehart, and Winston. David Berg's "Road Watch Montana" is registered in Montana and appears on KTVQ-2 in Billings, Montana. He is also heard on a majority of the radio stations in south central Montana with road and traffic reports done forty one times daily. David Berg's current work is done for presentation in a television newscast. The short reading time allowed has forced him to create these quick to read and high impact drawings. Additionally, he produces on a commissioning basis, custom comic strips wherein he produces a caricature of the "star" and makes him or her the centerpiece of a full-color, Sunday size comic strip. Berg resides in Billings, Montana where his "tabletop" studio produces other art for greeting cards, advertising, and apparel.
