Chapter Two
Page One

Finally after quite some thought, Marylee told me that I should start a Chapter Two in the Hunting section as it was getting too large. Marylee was actually correct for in 2005 as many of you are aware was a very busy year for us. We have had new additions in the form of more black powder shooting and now archery. Other additions have included a spunky little four year old Labroador by the name of Jersey. So again if you are in our neck of the woods, please stop in as I am sure there would be the opportunity to take a customer into the duck blind or tree stand.

Well, instead of a doe coming through the stand, here comes a cow moose with no calf.

The second day of the 2005 duck season and I am where I belong.

This is my doe shot at 92 yards with my 62 caliber black powder rifle. She went 110 yards after being shot with a perfect lung shot.

This is the first week of October, 2005 and we have tracking snow. This was the first time we have had snow in October for six years.

Geese overhead at our tree stand.

This is my second deer taken again with my 62 caliber black powder rifle at about 80 yards.

"Jersey"
Born September 25, 2001
Jersey went on her way on September 11, 2010.
We are sure she is enjoying the water and ready for the next season.

Time moves on and as I have seen in 2005, it actually has been very, very busy. With the loss of our old Roxy in November, I always remember a telephone call from my good friend and dog trainer, George Felmlee. By the way if you ever need a good dog, George Felmlee is the man to call and his telephone number is 406-633-2261. I believe that he primarily specializes in English Pointers and German Shorthairs but he could always tell you more. Anyway, on Tuesday night, November 15, 2005, George and I visited on the telephone. He told me that he would find me a good, calm, female Labroador as he felt that my hunting career centered on waterfowl and some upland. George said that by July of 2006 he would have her started so that I could hunt with the pup that fall. Two nights later on the 17th, George called and said that he had found a female that he had trained three years ago. The owner had three English Pointers and a Drathaar. The owner felt that he was primarily concentrating on upland but that the Drathaar would handle the waterfowl. I asked George if by chance I was getting someone elses garbage and he assured me that it was not the case. The dog would be coming up from Wyoming, had one litter of pups and needed to be spayed. We met her on Saturday and she was just incredible. Jersey is only fifty five pounds and small in the hips and front shoulders but very well trained. She is a real joy to join the partnership along with Kayla.

As is the case with all of our dogs, we fully realize there is always the time when they have to leave. Jersey left us earlier than we wanted but with wonderful memories.

This is my first remembrance of Jersey laying by my desk. We kept the leash on the first couple of days just to maintain control of her.

This is "the Pro" coming back from our deck and ready for the day.

Jersey has that strong black coat of a Labroador that is really hard to photograph but she is just a sweetheart.

I don't care how many times I see it, every time a dog hits the water it just takes your breath away. Now they come out beaming.....

Here I am with my two girlfriends, Jersey and Kayla

So you have a dog that can do anything, how about going up in a treestand? Jersey was not the wildest about it but time will tell...

My first archery trophy, taken at 20 yards.

September 3, 2006
Bull and cow moose came within 65 yards of my treestand.

September 9, 2006
Taken at 18 yards.

Three point buck came within 14 yards of the stand.

After calling to this bull, he came into the stand at six yards.

This is at about 11 yards and he still can't find the source of the calls.

September 28, 2006
After a cow and calf came by my stand, this bull decided to play with us.

"Alright who are you guys?"

"Now wait a minute..." A little too close for comfort. We are standing on the other side of the four wheeler with this little guy.

"Okay I am out of here!!"

My third archery trophy of the season, 18 yards, recovered at about 52 yards.
