Meadowlark Gallery: The Artist Biographies

Michael Coleman
Michael Coleman was born in Provo, Utah, in 1946. He grew up fishing and hunting, always wanting to be an artist. After completing high school, he majored in art at Brigham Young University. They considered him an unusual student there because he was a representational painter. He quit the university when his instructor convinced him that nothing more was left to learn there, and went on to the San Francisco Art Institute. To stimulate ideas, he spends summers traveling. He has exhibited at the National Academy of Western Art in 1975, at the Santa Gertrudis auction in 1976, a one man show at the Kennedy Galleries in 1977, and was given a retrospective at the Buffalo Bill Historical Center in 1978.
