Meadowlark Gallery: The Artist Biographies

Cheryl Price (1953- )

"I have always loved and have had a need to create art. My best memories from childhood would be the room length chalk murals in grade school that I would spend my recesses inside drawing the outlines for; enabling some of the other kids to color them in later. Through independent study of impressionists like Van Gogh and Monet, my work continues to evolve; also by trial and error and the pure love of painting for over the past 35 years. For more than 25 years I worked exclusively with watercolor. Most recently I have been painting with oils. The medium however, is not as paramount as the process. I am very committed to my work; it is what defines me and drives me. My subject is predominately nature, which has likewise become my teacher. Nature is truth and I have become a keen observer of the subtle and mutable relations that it shares throughout the day with the sun. Living in the mountains, where the land is less altered, has made me much more aware of it. There is so much happening in nature on any given day in any given moment. I attempt to capture glimpses of it to learn from and share." Cheryl Price
