Edward B. Quigley was born in Park River, North Dakota in 1895 and died in 1986. He was a traditional western painter, illustrator, woodcarver, and muralist. "Quig" was raised in North Dakota and Idaho. He studied at the Art Institute of Chicago and the Chicago American Federation of Arts. As a commercial artist, he became art director for Chicago publishing companies. His specialty was animals. In the early 1930's, while traveling in northern Washington, he sketched ranch life, Yakima Indians, and wild horses. This led to a successful career as a painter of cowboy genre.
