| John Scott's first art assignments were for the Western pulp magazines during the 1930's until the outbreak of World War II. During World War II, Scott was overseas as a staff artist on Yank Magazine and covered the war in Europe as an artist-correspondent. After returning home, John began to work for the general magazines such as This Week, Woman's Day, and the Canadian publications such as Chatelaine and the Toronto Star. He gradually gravitated to the men's magazines such as Ture, The Elks, Argosy, and Sports Afield. He particularly enoyed the hunting and fishing assignments. He carried out assignments for the Winchester Arms Company and the Garcia Corporation. From there he did a series of paintings on the early days of oil drilling in Texas for the Permian Basin Petroleum Museum in Midland, Texas. | ||
