Eliza R. Barchus (1857-1959)
Eliza R. Barchus (Mrs. John H. Barchus) was born in Salt Lake City, Utah in 1857 and died in Portland, Oregon in 1959. Barchus was a landscape painter specializing in mountains. Her work of twenty two paintings is in a Portland church and was in the collections of Woodrow Wilson, Theodore Roosevelt, and William Jennings Bryan. Mrs. Barchus was the pupil of Will S. Parrott in Portland. She was exhibiting in Portland by 1888 and at the National Academy of Design in New York City by 1900.
