W. E. "Ole" Olsen

W. E. "Ole" Olsen was born in Bemus Point, New York in 1929. He attended school in Michigan where he met his wife. After 29 years as a logging engineer with the U. S. Forest Service, he moved to Townsend, Montana. Having carved his first decoy in 1942 but lagged in his production until 1959. Basically self taught, his designs evolved from 1959. Largely known for his working decoys he then later was convinced by Ducks Unlimited to create decorative decoys.
